Movie: Robot and Frank

Robot & Frank is the debut film from director Jake Schreier that wowed audiences at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Set in the near future, the story is about an elderly, dementia-suffering jewel thief, Frank (Frank Langella), who’s left in the care of a robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard) given to him by his estranged son (James Marsden). Soon Frank is teaching the robot how to pick locks and to be the perfect criminal sidekick.

The film also stars Liv Tyler as Frank’s hippie, anti-robot daughter, and Susan Sarandon as a sexy local librarian whom Frank has his eye on.

“We have loved this project from the script stage,” said Sony’s Joe Matukewicz. “This winning film strikes a special chord with audiences, and we are delighted to bring Robot & Frank into the Sony Pictures family. Jake’s film shows us a future that is right around the corner, and I for one, can’t wait for my own robot!”

Yes, the trailer looks  like it tells the whole story in one go and yes, it looks like the old persons guide to Bicentennial Man but I suspect it could be the feel-good hit of the summer! And hey, I actually liked Bicentennial Man when it first came out…
