The Exorcist could be following in the footsteps of Psycho (which mutated into Bates Motel) and Silence Of The Lambs (which became Hannibal), by going from book to film to TV series.
According to Deadline, production company Morgan Creek is shopping a project based on Peter Blatty’s novel round the US networks. The producer attached is the very busy Ray Lee: his CV includes the US versions of The Grudge and The Ring (and accompanying sequels), How To Train Your Dragon and The Woman In Black; he is currently involved with the Bates Motel TV series; and has an upcoming slate including Oldboy, Poltergeist and The Lego Movie.
The script, which is apparently a whole new take on the material (it’s about possession by My Little Ponies, maybe?), is by Jeremy Slater, who has worked on the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, and the potential adaptation of the graphic novel Fables. Whether the demons will swear presumably depends on whether the show is picked up by a network or a cable channel.
